Ocean Walls

Ocean Walls

Pushing past the ocean walls to the world above
Your hair molds together thicker than seaweed.
If only I could reach my hand out to you my love

Your finger tips are fairer than the feather of a dove
Water glistens on your skin, falling down in beads
Pushing past the ocean walls to the world above

The waves continue to give your a shove
Keeping me from following your lead
If only I could reach my hand out to you my love

You fit over my heart as smooth as a glove
I saw you and knew you were all I need
Pushing past the ocean walls to the world above

All bitterness I ever felt your love got rid of
I gave my soul over; I fulfilled the deed
If only I could reach my hand out to you my love

Now you are in heaven; weightless as a dove
My only wish was to follow your lead
Pushing past the ocean walls to the world above
If only I could reach my hand out to you my love

  1. I love the line “You fit over my heart as smooth as a glove.” Beautiful, and original. I’m sick of all the age-old cliched lines that some poets use to squeak by with a rhyme. This keeps up a good flow both in rhyme and rhythm, really nice work ❤

    • Thank you so much! I was grinning ear to ear when I found out that someone responded to my writing. I was a bit nervous about this poem because I don’t ususally write in a villanelle poem form. Thanks for being my first comment!!!
